Analysis of a Magazine Cover

Vogue - September 2010
Front Cover
  • ·        Mast Head – This appears at the top of the cover page in serif font.
  • ·        Cover Image – Of celebrity Kate Moss, styling the latest trends.
  • ·        Headlines – Bold font, in two main colours red and white that is used throughout the magazine. They are written in Sans Serif.
  • ·        Sub-headings – These are giving you extra information about what the headings have said. These are in serif and sans serif.
  • ·        The headlines and sub-headings are spaced around the cover image, so it doesn’t cover up the image.
  • ·        Background – They have kept the background plain; this helps the text stand out so it catches the target audience’s attention.
  • ·        Cover Line – ‘Vogue’s guide to minimal chick’ this is written across the main image, suggesting to the reader that Kate Moss is a ‘minimal chick’. This is also written in bigger font so it stands out a lot more.
  • ·        They also show the price of the magazine in the top corner, but it is a lot smaller than the rest of the text because they don’t want the reader to concentrate on the price of the magazine they want them to concentrate on what’s inside.
